How to…Get Rid of Ants in Your Kitchen

From time to time, I hear people complain about having ants in their kitchen and they can’t figure out how to get rid of them. Most people don’t want to use harsh chemicals, me where they will be preparing food.

I have had the same problem in the past. I finally came upon a recipe for white vinegar and Dawn dish soap. After several attempts to find the correct combination of these two ingredients, whether or not to add water, I finally determined that I was completely over-thinking it. I mixed a 1:1 ration of Dawn to vinegar and found it to be just right.

Simply mix together in a spray bottle and spray on counter tops, then wipe clean. This is a great cleaner for the entire kitchen and bathroom as it turns out. Ants hate it! I use it when I think of it. Not every time I clean but you cannot use it too often. For the price? You cannot beat it!!

  1. Thanks, I’ll try that. wish I knew where the littl b******s are coming up from though – somewhere inaccessible like behind the built-in cooker I fear.
For those in the UK who are wondering about Dawn dish soap – it’s washing up liquid to us.

  2. Dawn dish soap is good for a lot of things. It works on outside plants by keeping ants and other insects at bay. We use a teaspoon of Dawn to 32 ounces of water. We use white vinegar and ammonia to clean kitchen counters. Thanks for the tips.
